And actually, if we had thrown the Clinton/Gore Nazis out in 1996 and somehow gotten SS privatization under way (pure Alternate History, I know), the powerful dollar-cost-averaging effect of the recent bear market would have sent our younger workers on a wealth-building ride that we could barely imagine.

Go back to the fifties and do the same thing, and we here are all reeking with wealth (and probably corrupt liberal opinions, to boot).

Dave,

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as I read it, there never was any intention of investing the SS fund in the stock market. The proposition was that individuals could take up to 2% of their FICA deduction, and invest it wherever they wanted to, and only IF they wanted to. If they wanted to retain the assumed safety of the present SS system, they could opt for that. IOW, it is completely voluntary, and is on an individual case basis.

I fail to see what the demo/libs are complaining about unless it is that they won't get a chance to spend the 2% considered, on some of their "give away" programs, AKA flushing the money down the drain.
