Thanks GP. Now I finally see just how this works!

RMBS is free to take the most ancient of obvious art, known to even the most unknowledgeable artists, who ever covered a canvass, hook it up to their "inventive" multiplexed bus and presto they have a patent.

Then because they are blessed by the Lord of Ego, they think they can sasschez in to the PTO 4 and more years latter and claim to have actually intended that original patent really covered the idea of "implementing" all these same old artistic bits on any other bus "implementation" that may have been concocted by anyone in 1990 or thereafter!

...Well, it looks like the judicial test for patent extensions is more a question of what you actually said you intended in that original patent, than what you later wish you had said after you find out what kind of "bus" really works best by attending industry standards meetings.

There is no way RMBS wins this appeal or any other case that I can see. If the judiciary ever starts doing something as dumb as saying "'multiplexed bus' is the equivalent of 'any bus'" the patent system won't mean a thing.

I'll be dogged, if that Billow guy wasn't right again! When RMBS wrote up that 1990 patent it clearly never occurred to them that anyone could ever package a memory system with as many pins as SDRAM which could pump the juice at speeds beyond 100MHz! That's the ONLY explanation for their "brilliantly inventive" limitation of the "multiplexed bus" claim language.<Ho Ha 8->

They figured it couldn't be designed around! It was just tooooo "elegant" to be bested! That's why the numb nuts made the mistake of going to JEDEC in the first place! And INTC probably encouraged Tate to jump in with guns a blazin'.<Ha Hoo 8->

...Damn you Billow!<vbg> ...Damn you and the pins you road in on!<Bwahahaha Hooooooo 8->
