Andreas My point is that it's highly unlikely for Intel to officially launch a product more than two months before it becomes available -- unless there's competition. Fortunately you have only to wait two more weeks (not months) to see what this competition is.

No mystery. The competition is Transmeta, i.e., for processors for the low power, high density new server packaging. In any event, this announcement is almost completely driven by the other company, besides Intel, that's in on it. AMD is a day late and a dollar short now in the server market. Most big server users will probably wait for the new blade architecture before upgrading. Maybe AMD could try to buy Transmeta, or would it be the other way around?
