Jack, in your spare time: you should start reading about derivatives and hedge funds and how their margin requirements are much different than you and I. Basically: they can tremendously overleverage at obscene amounts. So the part where people say a 1930's can't happen because margin is limited doesn't take into account the vast amount of money that today can do a 1930's overleverage til your eyeballs pop out.
