Perhaps a merger in the patch will renew interest..It could be a mistake to underestimate the power of cashflow in this sector..Besides Capex spending through the bit, they have to make that cash work..acquisitions/ mergers ect. It wouldn't surprise me to see some of this cash get invested outside the patch as well(what tech companies are directly involved in the patch?)..Any or all the above will garner press coverage and investor interest,IMO...I'm neutral on the sector for the time being..Then again, it could be signaling a top..Mergers were quite rampant at the last cycle top..

Williams Is in Talks to Pay $2.3 Billion
In Cash, Stock for Barrett Resources

$70+ nice premium, opportunity to exit today? I would have hated to be short BRR and it is not the last takeover candidate.

Why did you avoid drillers in your short OS list?

Yes, I have my short list ready. It's all tech, and all my companies have much higher PE's than your short list.

People seem to be highly insensitive to $2 gasoline prices. OPEC compliance indicates there is still a high level of cohesion regarding oil production. Demand for NG will start picking back up in a month as the weather warms, and it will be considerably higher than in prior years.

Still think it's very inadvisable to expose yourself to so much risk for so little potential return but to each his own. Get caught in a merger announcement and you're toast. In this economy and market I'll sleep very well at night being short telecom and long energy.
