Proxicom says gets counteroffer from Dimension Data

NEW YORK, May 7 (Reuters) - Internet consulting firm Proxicom Inc. (NASDAQ:PXCM) said on Monday it was considering a counteroffer to Compaq Computer Corp.'s (NYSE:CPQ) $266 million takeover deal, after Dimension Data Holdings Inc. (DDTJ) offered a higher price for the company.

South African-based Dimension offered to purchase the company for $7.50 per share, more than the Compaq offering of $5.75 per share, Proxicom said. The company, however, said it has not modified an earlier recommendation to shareholders that they approve the Compaq deal.
