Rudedog - the "blade" concept was originally presented to Perez several years ago. There was always too many reasons not to do an architecture that did not use a server processor and looked different. The concept kept coming up every year after that. But, Compaq is afraid to take risks. Early on it wasn't that way. I still think the "blade" architecture would have stayed in the lab if Perez, Mcauliffe, and Clark had not been taken away by Stimac.
