I think the State had 20 days or something like that and then we could proceed to setting a Court date. I had heard a rumor that I doubt is true, but someone suggested that the Judge might hand Coastal Petroleum a surprise favorable Judgement very quickly. Then we could expiditiously proceed to the second part of this case to determine damages. After all, the Appeals Court explicitly said that "just compensation " had to be paid in order for the State's prevention of drilling to be Constitutional.

If the Courts determined that a multi billion dollar Judgement had to be paid to avoid drilling, the State would appeal the case up to the Florida Supreme Court. If they wanted to be political, the Florida Supreme Court might rule in favor of Coastal and dump the decision on drilling into Jeb's lap. No matter whether Jeb decided to drill or pay, his political career in Florida would be over. All of this could happen before the 2002 elections. That is why I was thinking that this case might actually influence Jeb's decision to run in 2002.
