golfnut: The leveraged Rydex and ProFunds are identical to shorting an individual stock. Differences are: you are shorting an index (either the S&P or NASDAQ 100) and your shares will move at double the rate of the NASDAQ or S&P (200%). There is no time limiting or time decay element, just as there is none with simply shorting a stock. Only time element is: whether market events change your perception of what will happen.
