I've been to two different kinds of cultural diversity training. One kind holds that white people, black people, and so forth can be categorized and behave that way because they are black, white, and so forth. The other kind holds that well meaning whites shouldn't assume that a black person they know doesn't want to be introduced to every other black person the white person knows.

I think the second kind makes more sense. I sure as heck don't like every white person I know and I don't see why every black person should like all black people either. Same for Hispanics, Asians, and so forth.

Micahel,

I used to substitute teach in the Murphy school district in Phoenix, which is about 50% black and 50% Hispanic. All very poor.

I thoroughly enjoyed the students, and having to opportunity to experience a culture completely different than the white suburban culture I grew up in.
