China Leads PC Sales in Asia-Pacific, Says Gartner
May 8, 2001 (BEIJING) -- Sales of personal computers in the Asia-Pacific region, excluding Japan, rose 14.4 percent in the first quarter from a year earlier to 4.7 million units, led by sales in China, according to the latest data released by U.S.-based market research firm Gartner Group.

Asia-Pacific PC sales are traditionally slower in the first quarter, but the decline from the fourth quarter of 2000 was a slight 0.1 percent, as strong sales growth in China offset declines elsewhere in the region, Gartner said.

According to the released data, about 1.9 million PCs were sold in China in the first quarter, up 38 percent from a year earlier.
