German per-capita power consumption is relatively low.
(from SZ May 8th)

Inside the european union Germany occupies a place in the lower mid when it comes to per-capita electricity consumption. As the organisation of german electricity producers (VDEW) reported Monday in Frankfurt the consumption in 2000 came to 6050 kwh per person.Twice as high consumption was recorded in Sweden, Luxemburg and Finnland. The red light in Europe is Portugal with app 3800 kwh. USA with their 12100 kwh per-capita consumption consume the double of German average. The comparison with 1999 shows a slight increase in german energy consumption. According to VDEW several important factors influence the differences between different countries, among others the climate, geography, the level of industrialization, the availability of alternative sources and eventually the consumer behaviour.
