Thanks Steve and tc. I get the impression that Norton Disc Doctor (in thorough mode) will essentially accomplish the same thing and that SpinRite could cause a problem with a changed or missing byte. I've used most of Gibson's other software without a problem and I remembered SpinRite (if dementia isn't setting in yet) from the old DOS days, but I wasn't prepared to take a chance of messing things up (more than they already are <VBG>) by adding a program that people on the thread aren't using regularly.
