After 6 decades of running trade deficits the day of reckoning is coming? I don't think so. I think it already came and continues to come every day. The dollar will stay as strong as it is so long as our economy stays relatively strong. Continue policies that bolster the strength of our economy and the relative value of the dollar will stay the same unless other countries economies start to improve. We can falter - we already have to some extent. But I don't see any fundamental changes abroad that are going to make a great and lasting difference in their economies. Remember that foreign citizens based outside the US can invest in our markets tax free. They get a double benefit - tax free accumulation of wealth and currency appreciation.
