I really don't have much to say about defining liberals as I am not one.

EEEKKKKK! An admitted non-liberal on LWP. Get out the bug spray, quick!

White House Selects Corporate Lawyer as Chairman of S.E.C. nytimes.com

Meanwhile, on the regulatory front:

The Bush administration has chosen Harvey L.
Pitt, a prominent corporate lawyer, to be the
next chairman of the Securities and Exchange
Commission, officials said today. Mr. Pitt, a
frequent critic of the agency, has represented
many of the industries he will now regulate. . . .

Mr. Pitt declined today to comment about his appointment or about his views on
regulatory issues, although experts said that his broad roster of clients could pose
some possible conflict-of-interest problems. They also said it would be fascinating to
watch whether he would be able to make the move from one of the leading voices
of the industries under the commission's supervision, including the accounting
profession, brokerage houses and mutual funds, to become an advocate for the
public interest.

I find the "public interest" line amusing, of course, wrt anything coming out of W's WH. It's pretty traditional to put a fox in the chicken coop at the SEC, though. A relatively bipartisan policy.
