Here's that ADCT news - excellent new products lately

ADC Expands Voice and Data Capacity for Existing Copper Networks. ADC Introduces Broadband Micro-DLC Solution with PG-FlexPlus Remote Field Shelf

MINNEAPOLIS, May 8, 2001 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- ADC (Nasdaq:ADCT; www.adc.com), a leading global supplier of fiber optics, network equipment, software and integration services for broadband, multiservice networks, today announced the PG-FlexPlus(TM) Field Shelf, a broadband micro-digital loop carrier (DLC) that enables carriers to add incremental voice and data capacity on existing copper plant infrastructure. The PG-FlexPlus Field Shelf, with its environmental hardening, is ideal for carriers looking to profitably satisfy the demand for voice and ADSL services in areas of copper exhaust without incurring the major time and capital expense of new copper deployment in the distribution (F2) plant.

The PG-FlexPlus Field Shelf is designed for maximum flexibility, with digital multiplexing of up to 96 DS0 channels over 16 6-line or four 24-line, line-powered remote units. The system can be pedestal mounted at existing DLC or crossbox locations in the outside plant, or pole or wall mounted anywhere in the network.

The PG-FlexPlus Field Shelf features four network interfaces slots. When a distant central office (CO) feeds the PG- FlexPlus Field Shelf, these slots may be used to terminate multi-vendor T1, HDSL or HDSL2 cards. In cases when the PG- FlexPlus Field Shelf is fed by an adjacent DLC, the network interfaces slots may be used to terminate standard TR08 or D4 interfaces. From the PG- FlexPlus Field Shelf, facility relief for voice and data may be delivered to up to 16 different areas. The PG- FlexPlus s Field Shelf's unique ability to line power the remotes that deliver voice and ADSL lines makes it a quick and effective solution to meet held order demand.

"The Field Shelf is a major breakthrough in loop electronic solutions. Whereas DLCs have significantly improved the capacity of the fiber optic based feeder (F1) plant, modularity and local powering constraints have made them cost-prohibitive solutions for the copper pair-based distribution (F2) plant," said Shaji Thomas, vice president of marketing for ADC's Subscriber Carrier Business Unit. "With its line powered remote architecture, the PG-FlexPlus Field Shelf works in conjunction with existing DLCs to easily and cost-effectively increase the voice and data capacity of the distribution (F2) plant."

Thanks Dave, I'm watching FONX, looks like they're gearing for a major run.

Cheers
