Notice that the male birds originally had larger "love" patchs that were clipped, making them less attractive to females other than their mates. If the larger "love" patch signals superior health and fitness, clipping it won't change that. The experiment only proves that outside relationships are detrimental to one's primary family relationships, IMO, but we knew that.:)
