LRU cache pages...

I made an assumption about what was being measured. When the system looks for a place for a cache page and there's no room, it kicks out the page that hasn't been used for the longest time. This page is called Least Recently Used.

If, for some reason, the system cannot find a suitable LRU page, it selects a page to kick out randomly. Trouble with this is, it could just as easily give the boot to a well used and needed page as a 'civil servant' page which is just sitting around keeping the chair warm.

I assumed what was being monitored was the LRU page replacements compared with the random page replacements. In this case 100% would be a good thing. I have no clue what percentage would NOT be a good thing.

However, I failed to make it clear in my post that my answer was based on assumptions, and what they were. I regret any confusion this caused.

I look forward to acquiring a deeper understanding of this issue.

Cheers, PW.

I gottcha. I wasn't referring to the actual info provided by PW or the tech as being good or bad. It just struck me funny at the time and immediately brought up the image of the CEO in that commercial saying almost the same words.

tc :-)
