perverse reasoning is all the rage these days. these guys are whackos, imo. they added another 1,6 million oz. in fresh shorts in qu. 1 alone. to say that this additional supply doesn't hurt the price is completely disingenuous.

i'm heartened by the fact that he doesn't see a 'near term catalyst for the price'. just maybe he's going to get a mighty boot up his shorter's arse...-g-

note: only a fraction of Barrick's profits come from their actual business...some 80 or 90% are derived from their hedging activities. i don't regard them as gold miners at all...they're a hedge fund that is exclusively engaged in shorting gold, and owns a few holes in the ground on the side for cosmetic purposes.
