Cisco Systems (CSCO) 20.61 +1.36: -- Update -- Inventories were $1.913 bln at quarter-end, which is significantly worse than the $1.6 bln guidance Cisco offered just two weeks before the end of the quarter. Even after a massive $2.5 bln inventory write-off, Cisco's inventories remain a problem. Cisco Systems (CSCO) 20.61 +1.36: -- Update -- Reports Q3 earnings of $0.03 a share, $0.01 better than the First Call consensus of $0.02, vs year-ago earnings of $0.13. Net sales for the third quarter of fiscal 2001 were $4.73 billion, compared with $4.93 billion for the same period last year, a decrease of 4%;

CSCO CC starts @ 4:45. Cisco Systems (CSCO) 20.61 +1.36: -- Update -- Stock trading slightly lower after hours at 20.20; the April qtr earnings and revenues were not as important as the guidance, and there was no guidance offered in the press release; waiting for guidance in the call which begins at 4:45 ET. Only possible hint is that the inventory write-down was reduced by $300 mln. Though this $300 mln was not sold (it just added to the end-of-quarter inventories), it might indicate some optimism about future sales.

Cisco Systems (CSCO) 20.61 +1.36: -- Update -- Cisco sees July qtr revenues flat to down 10% -- same guidance as offered with the April 16 preannouncement. Company is assuming that capex will stabilize in Asia and that consumer spending in the US will not deteriorate significantly.
