The United Nations should constitute a company whose main assets are the Iridium satellites. Then all countries could use this as a mean of providing communications, the so-called "Universal Access" to remote communities and get the hell out of the telecommunications business. Then let the telecoms field free for all:Let be itself without the lobbies and the defence of the special interest groups. Benefits: 1) Without the old shibboleth we would pretty amazing developments in terms of services and businesses in the telecoms sector. 2) Iridium future would be guaranteed.
