Forcing consolodation as Michael Dell put it, is the strategy that he wants to follow. We are seeing signs of it with emachines being put up for sale.

Why is it important now?

Very simple answer....Dell wants the smaller players gone before Windows XP!!
Also think Compaq, HWP, IBM should be thanking them for it. <g>
Getting rid of the smaller players, including the little computer shops with no-name brands, will help the big players down the road and the MARGINS will be EXPAND for the usual names. From what I remember reading a while ago, too much of the business still goes to the 2nd or 3rd tier PC companies (like emachines).

First of several-I could not believe Moneyline's report tonight on the demise of PC's-How many years do we have to listen to that stuff-Do short sellers have that much money to buy the Moneyline journalist?
