The ADX is a great indicator showing us how strong a trend is. Traders can also us it as a means of knowing when to step out of the market. Readings of above 35 on the ADX show a nice trend is in place, but readings under 20 I tend to regard as showing me a stock that is trendless...which means no volatility to speak of. As traders, most of us depend upon volatility..some of us on volatility and a trend. Watching the ADX on the hourly Nasdaq and SP500 charts can provide traders with a great insight as to when to trade their seats in front of the computer for a spot on the beach.
