good move it will be dead now, till we get some news. Like I said before the market is going to go sideways unless some other catalyst comes into play.

Who are these 2nd and 3rd tier makers Dell is referring to?

I know Micron, E-Machines, Acer, Sony, Toshiba, NEC.

The first two I can see, the last 3 have a very strong local market in Japan as well as strong laptop sales.

IBM? Apple? You can't really count them. Apple has their niche (graphic artists, cult figures) and IBM uses their PC's to leverage other business.

I'd like to know who the other 3rd tier makers are. It is really hard to get a decent deal on an Athlon machine right now. Unless you buy 100 of them, you get gouged.

PS: If Dell wants to drive people out of business before the launch of Windows XP, I believe he's got at least a year to do it. No way they make the November ship date.
