I don't think the afterhour futures are much good as a predictor any more, if they ever were. At most they give an indication of how the market will open, but then only when viewed shortly before the open. Volatility is so high that the open isn't a very good indicator of the rest of the day. In fact, lately the market often seems to reverse course about 45 minutes after the open.

I think it's a tough call where we'll end tomorrow. It wasn't a good report, but that shouldn't have surprised anybody. If people start to believe there will be a tech turnaround by the end of the year, eventually the market will start to discount one.
