there's a different reason. it has to do with the holocaust fund they're setting up...they're going to use part of the gold sale proceeds for that.

it's a pity though: the Swiss Franc was the last truly gold backed currency. and it may well turn out that all the CB sales that have taken place will one day have to be reversed - there is no guarantee whatsoever that the current fiat pyramid will survive. historically, every single paper currency has been repudiated eventually.

a nice anecdote in connection with this is contained in the search for the buried Nazi Reichsbank riches: it is known that several crates containing gold as well as foreign currencies haven't been found yet. whoever finds the stuff, can use the paper money for a little camp fire - it has zero value aside from perhaps some collector's value. only the gold is still worth something.
