Technology may help, but as many of us know,
you don't need a subpoena to find out an anonymous
poster's identity.....
if you are smart, or tricky, or diligent in going through old posts.

The fact is, if you've been on the internet long enough, you have probably left a dozen or more clues as to your identity somewhere along the way. I have determined people's identities several times simply by using hunches and search engines. Others have lured the unsuspecting to web sights that extract identifying information (I realize that technology may prevent this...at least I hope so). Trying to be totally anonymous is like trying to commit the perfect crime, nearly impossible.......if there is somebody that REALLY wants to find out who you are.

So my point is......I'm a big fan of privacy technology....but there is a place for the policy too.
