Hard to say, looking at the article, whether the study demonstrates that gay people can become straight or whether it's possible to go back in the closet and close the door very tightly. I'm afraid that the net effect in either case will be that a lot more parents of gay young people will subject their children to intense efforts to change them, in the desperate hope that they are among the few who can be converted. I'm not sure that the pain this will inflict on those who do not convert would be justified by the hypothetical benefits of converting a few.

Perhaps it is true that some gay people have a choice. If that is the case, it is up to them to make that choice, and up to the rest of us to respect whatever choice they make.
