cool, cnet pointed to something that we have not considered and that is mobile brand. Both companies would have desktop #4 but only amd would have mobile #4. I am sold on athlon 4.
And by the time intel 4 would find its way into notebooks amd desktops should see hammer family.
I withdraw my proposal for athlon xp <ggg>

Andreas, <I wonder what AMD's marketing did in the last two years when this thread can come up with far better choices in two hours?>

Hence the phrase coined by the Dilbert comics, "Marketing Department: Two Drink Minimum."

I wonder if we'll start seeing the AMD version of Intel's "Blue Man Group" marketing campaign later this year. Maybe they'll get swimsuit models covered in green paint? ;-)

Andres, " what a stupid marketing decision" - AMD is doing what they think makes sense to them by copying the number 4. Jerry wants market share and Intel is spending to make the Pentium 4 popular. Jerry piggybacks on those ads. If they adopt a name that would meet the approval with the nerds on this forum then they will have to increase the advertising budget in competition with Intel ads to make their name recognizable. AMD cannot afford to do this. You may dislike the Blue Man Group but Jerry understands.
