Dell probably wasted too much on Linux or other internet companies.

Major investements included Rambus and Dr. Koop.

NV, reviewing all the strange internet companies (ideas) which Meredith bought into...you have to ask why?

But, Dell Computer is bigger than Tom. Several 'managers' which Tom personally hired didn't live up to expectations, so Tom's pull was eroding here as well, according to Austin.

Compaq was bigger than P-ieffer. The market gave MC little chance of success; yet he's done very well

Nevertheless, I'd rather see a Dell with Meredith than without...for nothing more than Icon status

The media paints the 'Rollins/Meredith' debate in such simplistic terms. It's nothing like that

Dell Ventures was Tom's personal test for him to succeed in the 'new economy'. He set his personal expectations too high for himself. Consequently his succeeding role wasn't fit for the old, good king.
