I think it's a reaction to the knowledge that Dell is now playing a lose-lose game with their business model. Dell may be in strong position now, but isn't prepared to weather a protracted battle of this nature. In the end, Dell will have to buy some competitors to reduce competition and shore up margins, or be bought out itself.

Either that, or the price wars will have to end quickly. In the meantime, I'm buying a new computer....
