Gottfried, That is a very good point! I guess I was just afraid that I would not be connected to the internet for a second. I will try it that way first. If everything works on the new PC, then like you say, I will have saved myself some trouble. <<Great because you can carry a Zip drive like that to a friend's house and plug it into her PC.>> Do you live in Austin? hey gottfried re, "Norma and mr mark, excuse for butting in" enough of that. you're not butting in! your comments are always welcome, gott. "Norma, it sounds as if you want the old PC around just to transfer files" yikes, i didn't draw that conclusion from norma's plan, and it looks like you may be right. i thought she was endeavoring to network both machines.... maybe it was this remark... "I just realized I only have one Time Warner (Road Runner) external modem, so I guess I can't have the internet on both PCs." ... that caused me to go off on the assumption that norma wanted to share her internet connection between both pc's. guess we'll know soon enough! :) mark
