It isn't the begin/end generation that troubles me. The problem is trying to find pairs in existing code.

Hi muzosi; Re signed arithmetic... Since I keep my VHDL code at a low level (I only use "signals", and never use "variables" the only time I deal with the difference between signed and unsigned it will be determined by whether I stuck the "unsigned" or "signed" IEEE library call into the top of the file.

As it turns out, I always use unsigned, but then again I don't do much DSP stuff.

P.S. Has the thread taken on a newer, more enlightened gloating hardware geek mentality now? I know so many engineers that hate Rambus...
