i have two solutions for you. either get emacs with vhdl/verilog mode and use it to do all your instantiations or use renoir from mentor (?) to draw schematics and add rtl code at any hierarchy. i have never used renoir but i hear good things about it. there is also another tool i have read about in eetimes a couple weeks ago which does schematic/text combination but the name escapes me at the moment.
