This has (IIRC) been stated several times at various CCs and analyst meetings.

Kinda makes you wonder why Intel had the right idea first - doesn't it?

IMHO it would be better to simply do a "safe stop" of some kind, instead of clock throttling. If the die temperature really reaches the critical limit, the user needs to be aware of this - not just have a system that operates more slowly.

But, clearly, an on-die thermistor is a great asset.
