Taiwan's TWSE Index rose 110.55 to 5232.72, its biggest one- day percentage gain since March 7.

The government lowered the minimum market value for a foreign fund manager operating in Taiwan to $200 million from $1 billion.

It's also considering reducing the minimum requirement of asset management experience of foreign institutional investors to one year from the current three.

Chipmakers who make semiconductors on a made-to-order basis rose. Steven Barton, who helps manage $600 million in Asian stocks at Abbey National Asset Managers in Glasgow, said this week he will buy shares in TSMC and United Microelectronics Corp. with the TWSE Index at these levels.
