It simply means there was no evidence prior to that time.

Does it mean that there is evidence now?

Also, it does not mean that there was no evidence, but only that some evidence that was expected to be found had not been found yet.

If you see a Newspaper headline:
"Missing Evidence in Local Murder Trial Found: Murder weapon with suspect's fingerprints"
This does not mean that there was no evidence yet until they found the murder weapon. The fact that they had a suspect indicates that they probably had other evidence, such as an eye witness, a motive, video surveillance tapes, etc. But the term "missing evidence" indicates that a murder weapon is something that they would expect to find, and they called it missing because they had not found it until now. Just because you expect to find some more evidence does not indicate that no evidence has been found until now.
