The patents are not ill gotten. It is legal for Rambus to patent all claims it can derive out of the original filing. This has been affirmed again and again by the federal courts.

The verdict here was against Rambus for not telling Infineon that they were filing additional patent claims that could cover sdram. The fraud charge stemmed from "silence" at the JEDEC meetings. The silence part is not disputed. The fraud issue then swings on whether Infineon actually "relied" on Rambus' silence. The jury said they did. Hence, the fraud verdict.

I wonder what this is going to do to standards committee membership?
