All,

Perhaps there is some value in SanDisk's patents after all.

SanDisk Files Patent Infringement Action
Against Viking Components for Patent
Infringement

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 10, 2001--SanDisk
Corporation (NASDAQ: SNDK - news) announced today that it has filed a
complaint for patent infringement against Viking Components, Inc. SanDisk
filed the complaint in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of
California in San Francisco, which seeks damages and an injunction against
Viking Components from making, selling or importing all Viking
CompactFlash(TM) cards that use controllers incorporated in CompactFlash
cards that were found to infringe SanDisk's U.S. Patent No. 5,602,987 in a
previous lawsuit filed by SanDisk against Lexar Media, Inc.

SanDisk initiated the proceedings against Viking Components after discovering
that Viking's CompactFlash cards use the same controllers that were found in
the infringing CompactFlash cards. SanDisk is seeking past damages and an
injunction against further sales of Viking CompactFlash cards that incorporate
these same controllers.

Charles Van Orden, vice president and general counsel for SanDisk, stated,
``SanDisk informed Viking Components of the potential issues raised by its
use of the Lexar Media controllers in Viking's CompactFlash products.
SanDisk also attempted to engage Viking Components in discussions
regarding a license in order to amicably resolve the matter. Viking, however,
failed to provide any substantive response, and SanDisk was compelled to file
the legal action. SanDisk aggressively enforces its intellectual property rights,
especially in cases where a product, or an integral component thereof, has
already been found by a federal court to infringe SanDisk's intellectual
property.''

SanDisk Corporation, the world's largest supplier of flash data storage
products, designs, manufactures and markets industry-standard, solid-state data,
digital imaging and audio storage products using its patented, high density
flash memory and controller technology. SanDisk is based in Sunnyvale, CA.

The matters discussed in this news release contain forward-looking statements
that are subject to risks and uncertainties and actual results may vary. These
forward-looking statements include statements related to SanDisk's patent
litigation with Viking Components and SanDisk's ability to protect its
intellectual property rights. These risks include that if SanDisk is unable to
adequately protect its intellectual property, one or more of its competitors could
gain access to its technology, which could harm its ability to successfully
compete. Other risks are contained ``Factors That May Affect Future Results''
in the Company's annual report on Form 10-K and quarterly reports on Form
10-Q, filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. The Company
assumes no obligation to update the information in this release.
