Anyone think AWRE is a takover play? INTC, TXN, BRCM appear likely suitors. DSL is here to stay for a long time. It would seem that getting ownership of the intellectual property would be a good move for a chip company who wants to diversify.

The slow down in DSL...IMHO is from the RBOCs preventing the CLECs from accessing the Digital Loop Carrier (DLC)
Equipment used to concentrate many local loop pairs onto a few high-speed digital pairs or one fiber optic pair for transport back to the Central Office (CO).
That left the CLECs with access only at the CO...hence the fall of Northpoint, Covad and others. Now without much in the way of DSL competition, the RBOCs are poking along and blowing smoke with press releases. SBC today says they are into the second phase of project Pronto, but project Pronto is already over a year behind. Demand for DSL is still not being supplied fast enough to statisfy it.

Do you see cable becoming the dominant provider of band-width?

I would think that the RBOC's would be falling all over themselves to utilize thier existing infrastructure to provide next generation technology.

I don't get it.
