Re:Athlon soared as high as 1.2GHz.

I guess word hasn't reached the banks of the Ganges yet that Athlon has moved to 1.33 GHz with 1.4GHz release imminent.

Re:Looking ahead to 2002
Intel's 2002 shipments will also be boosted by Microsoft's Xbox

Oh yah, I'm sure Bill Gates will be shelling out the big bucks for Intel's left over inventory.

Harvey:

"Intel: Planning the next move"

Wonder if it'll be on the same level as have been the past 15 moves...

Ashok reduces his "buy" level on INTC to the high teens. Wow!!! That doesn't constitute an upgrade or downgrade does it?

"If demand does not pick up in the second half of 2001, it is likely that Intel will retest the valuation lows of 1998, taking the stock down to the high teens. When we do come out on the other side of this bear market, investors should be in a position to "buy" and not "sell on rallies."

The way Ashok sounds, Athlon will still be at 1.2 Ghz when 0.13 P4 hits 2 Ghz. Yes, valiant try AMD. Actually, a 1.8 Ghz Palomino would sweep and mop the floor with P4.

I also liked the following quote:
"If Xbox is successful, shipments could easily exceed 10 million in 2002. These units will use a low-cost version of Pentium III, reducing the revenue impact, but Xbox could still add a nice bump to Intel's revenue."

Can you say "giving them away"?

The nice (little) bump from the Xbox contract may be more meaningful to Intel considering this quote:
"We have seen with Intel and other technology companies that the E in P/E has fallen at a faster rate."

Harvey, thanks for the Kumar piece on Intel's next move. Even Kumar can't bring himself to recommend Intel although it is obvious his pro-Intel bias is still intact.

Although it [AMD] gained only a couple points of market share... NOT, more like 4%.

In the fall, Intel plans to roll out a 0.13-micron version of the Pentium 4 known as Northwood. In this next-generation process, Northwood will be a fraction of the size of Willamette. This change will reduce Intel's cost to build the Pentium 4 and will allow the company to greatly increase production levels.

Fall is optimistic in view of recent developments, particularly in terms of the ramp being significant in 2001.
