Intel is too schizoid to do a good job with DDR. They remind me of Compaq and Alpha. Too much politics in play to do the job correctly.

Intel's record in deliberately crippling systems that technically can run much faster is clear.

Eg : back to the 486SX days when the die was identical to a 486DX, more recently when there is no actual technical reason why a Celeron cannot use a PC133 FSB, and now, to supporting PC1600 when PC2100 and PC2700 are available.

As a business decision, it is understandable. With all the celeron sales cannibalizing the PII's back then, it would be scary if celerons ran at comparable speeds to PIIs (and xeon!) speed. <g>
