CNBC reported earlier that Juniper, on a conference call this afternoon, was forecasting earnings per share of $1.60 this year and $1.30 next year. Juniper spokeswoman Kathy Durr said the report was erroneous and the company wasn't changing its forecast. CNBC later corrected its report. The conference call was with Buckingham Research Group analyst Gina Sockolow, about 40 to 50 of her clients and Juniper's investor-relations head, Randi Feigin, Sockolow said. Sockolow, who began coverage of Juniper shares on Tuesday with an ``accumulate'' rating, said her actual forecast is for $1.06 a share this year and $1.30 in 2002. Juniper shares fell $3.76 to $53.61 on the Nasdaq Stock Market, then rebounded as high as $55.49 in after-hours trading. Cisco Systems Inc., the biggest maker of computer-networking equipment, is Juniper's top rival. Last month, Juniper said it expects 2001 per-share profit, excluding some costs, of 90 cents to $1, less than what was then the average estimate from analysts of $1.05, according to First Call/Thomson Financial. Sales will rise to between $1.25 billion and $1.35 billion, lower than an earlier forecast of $1.5 billion to $1.6 billion, the company said. The average 2001 profit estimate is now 96 cents a share. For 2002, analysts expect profit ranging from 91 cents to $1.36 a share, with an average estimate of $1.16, First Call said. quote.bloomberg.com Interesting " Juniper spokeswoman Kathy Durr said the report was erroneous and the company wasn't changing its forecast.
