It's more about small market finances than win or else. Jagr is probably the best player in hockey right now & will command a premium salary in 2 yrs when his contract is up...... he already is paid a ton...... the Pens could get one or more very high draft picks &/or some quality young players.... it will allow the Pens to sign many of their star free agents too...... there just isn't enough money to keep Jagr & the free agents. The Pittsburgh Penguins team isn't owned by folks with Billions who don't care how much their team spends as long as it wins. FWIW, Mario is one of the owner of the Penguins, mostly due to the fact that the Pens owed him many Millions on his contract & could not afford to pay him & make payments on the Arena & to their current players (Mario was retired at the time).
