soem new technology will obsolete what he have? IS that an earthshaking prediction?

My point is you can't throw money at the sector and expect to make money near-term -- sure at some point everything will be digital, but not at current prices under the current economic environment -- CSCO won't see 30% growth in revenues for the next 2 - 3 years -- unless you count bouncing back from sales that have contracted severely --

e.g. J6P is not currently in the mode where he can pay for cable access to the internet -- I know some that have it, but the liklihood of it being adopted by the majority (or some other high BW equivalant) who have internet service at a price of $40/month is unlikely -- the reverse is likely --when push comes to shove this is the kind of thing that will be dropped ... CSCO's business is cyclical 2 -- demand for it's products have fallen with business needs and couldn't grow at a pace to outstrip the growth of the economy in general except in the early years -- the early years are done. It's not enough to know that technology will change and will be adopted to make a wise investment decision

The video tape and the CD are both headed towards obsolescence, just as surely as vaudeville.

G

Affordable recordable DVD is the next breakthrough technology that will make that happen.
