Capital punishment is something that I'm still ambivalent about.

I can certainly understand a family that wants an eye for an eye. And you hear the phrase that it brings "closure" but I doubt that they will ever get closure losing a loved one.

If the idea of life in prison went a little further to include absolutely NO contact with anyone or anything for the rest of their lives - where the condemned person is locked away in a cell and forgotten - where they are deprived of all stimulation including TV, reading materials, writing materials, visitors, etc., that means no news ever about anything! Where their existence is reduced to waiting for 2 small monotonous meals a day delivered by a robot and one shower a week. Where they are given a minimum of supplies that they have to ration - such as TP and water - then I think that may constitute a harsher punishment more severe than death.

Once they put him to death - his problems are over and he can go to his death with the warped thought that what he did was the right thing. I think he needs some time to think about what he did - for a long time.

Unfortunately life in prison as it is now which caters to the *rights* of the prisoner can be a nice life for some people.

Perhaps I'm more of a librarian then I care to admit:) It seems pretty obvious these days that our elected folks are only concerned with keeping their job's so they can continue to line their pockets rather then do what is good for the nation. Perhaps I will have to adopt your philosophy and expect them to do what they do so well, bad things.

It's a little unsettling but I can actually agree with many of McVeigh's feelings about our government. His cure is obviously nuts but his anger is shared by more then a few I'm afraid.

I am to the point where I absolutely expect the government to lie and do things that are not in my best interest.
Yeah. And I'm sure we won't be disappointed. Regardless of who has the White House or who dominates Congress.
