"Hundreds of Billions.........

Juniper calling…By JIM DUFFY
The Edge, 03/16/01

Carl Showalter, Juniper's vice president of marketing, this week is making the rounds to remind people just how successful the company is even in times of industry tumult.

The company is 1,100 strong now and it's plucking engineering talent from some failed start-ups. Though revenue forecasts for the worldwide Internet core market are down for this year - from $6+ billion to $4.5 billion - the market for edge routers is $2 billion and is growing 40% year-over-year.

I'm quite tempted to short JNPR. The problem is that everyone is shorting it. Could risk a big burst in price if the shorts cover. In the long run however, I agree, JNPR will never have revenues that match its price. And the competition is going to come from left field (new small company) or right field (CSCO). Dog eat dog. It it bursts back to 60 I'll have the guts to short.
