I agree -- the US was rural, more folks were involved in agriculture, there's a bunch of differences

I'll take the bet. I would suggest we use comparison of some of the following or similar items:
stock market index levels (percentage fall from peaks),
unemployment levels (percentage comparison),
retail sales levels (percent decline from peak on an annualized basis)
debt default levels (percentage increase - annualized), chapter eleven filings (especially by banks)
personal and corporate bankruptcy rates percentage comparison)
government budget deficit levels (percentage increase),
GDP output reduction comparisons etc.
