After her visit to Hanoi, there was strong sentiment to try Phonie Joanie for treason from both Reps and Dems. The Dems had been the instigators and primary prosecutors of the war; the Reps have no love for those who oppose this country.

As I recall, the reason it was not done was because legally it coulsd be be done because, lacking a declaration of war, N. Vietnam was not legally an enemy state.

So Joan got away with it.
