OK. Uncle Al cuts 50 beeps, but it might do no more to lift the stock exchanges or increase cap ex than it has before. The poor soul is running out of beeps. Do you think he should go for the gold and cut 100 beeps or just continue to dole out the beeps on a 3 week cycle until the ammo is gone?

I still feel like something unpleasant is out there, and we will not know it until it appears, LTCM-like, at a later date.

Gloop,

WRT your point about GNP...

What about money supply? And the real rate based on inflation (a malleable number to be sure).

Will the Federal Reserve, do its job, keeping the supply of money and credit in line with the economy's real growth?

Is money growing more slowly than production? Are we heading into a deflationary cycle a la the Japanese?

And of course the wild card now is energy costs, will it retrace and stabilize or does it continue to sap $$$ away from other expenditures and continue to drag on the economy

Lot's of questions, not a lot of answers.
